A National Conference on Water Purification Technologies & Management (InDACON 2012) was organized by the South Indian Education Society (Regd.) jointly with Indian Desalination Association at our Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Vidyapuram, Nerul campus on 8th & 9th February 2012. The Conference was inaugurated by Prof. Dr.R.Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India who also released the Conference Proceedings and the Souvenir containing the abstracts of contributory papers. Prof. Chidambaram in his inaugural address stressed the need for updating our technological competence in all areas relevant to human health, sustainable environment and energy sector. He gave examples of how modern technology could be blended with conventional wisdom to solve actual water problems in rural areas.

A total of 112 people participated in the National Conference. These included scientists, engineers from national research laboratories, working professionals from industries, teaching faculties and research workers from educational institutions and post graduate and engineering students. The Conference was conducted in five Technical Sessions over two working days. These five Technical Sessions were devoted to five different areas, namely, total water management, thermal desalination techniques, membrane based desalination techniques, renewable energy based desalination techniques and effluent treatment technologies. A total of 45 contributory papers were received for presentation for the Conference. The abstracts of all the papers were published in a Souvenir and the full technical papers were published in the form of Proceedings. Each Technical Session had one or two invited talks delivered by specialists. The Contributory papers were divided into two categories, namely oral and poster presentations. A separate venue with display boards were arranged to facilitate poster paper presentations. A panel of experts was formed to judge the best technical papers, presented by students from both the oral and poster sessions. A total of five prizes were awarded to the selected papers. A Panel Discussion was conduced at the end of the five Technical Sessions with five experts. During the Panel Discussions the participants also actively participated.
