|2||Dr. Devayani Savant gave a presentation on "Objectives and plan of activities of IQAC for the year 2020-21”.
SIES IIEM was recognized as a research centre for Ph. D. In Environmental Sciences under University of Mumbai in 2017. The College Development Committee of the institute was established in 2018. As per the recommendations of the management, the institute would go for UGC recognition in future and in this regard, a decision to establish Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was taken.
The IQAC committee was formed as per NAAC guidelines and members representing various stakeholders were appointed.
Dr. Devayani Savant explained the plan to improve the quality of various activities of the institute.
Reporting and documentation of academic activities would be improved by extensive use of the ERP system of SIES – Juno. The academic calendar, attendance of the students and internal assessments of all the courses – M. Sc. SDEM, PGDSEM and Ph. D. were documented in the ERP system. She also informed that teaching plan and work report of each faculty will also be recorded henceforth. Timetable for M. Sc. SDEM will be uploaded every Saturday and for PGDSEM program, it will be uploaded every month. She further stated that unit-wise tests based on MCQs would be carried out for each paper and performance of the visiting faculty would be monitored regularly.
Mr. Prasad Balan Iyer suggested conducting internal academic and administrative audit every six months and quantifying the objectives. He also suggested to record students feedback in Juno system.
|3||Dr. Devayani Savant proposed action plan to improve the R & D activities of the Institute. In order to improve the performance of the laboratory, monthly internal calibration of laboratory instruments and maintaining a separate record of the same was suggested. Similarly, a monthly Log-register of the all major instruments would be maintained and a monthly report of laboratory activities will be prepared.
In order to improve reporting of R & D activities, monthly record of project proposals, progress of ongoing research projects, lists of publications in journals and newsletter and financial status would be prepared.
Mr. Ashish Gupta suggested taking help of alumni to build industry relations. He also suggested ISO 9001 certification of the laboratory for getting industrial consultancies.
Mr. Manish Shukla offered his help in setting quality indicators for measuring the improvement in various activities and getting ISO 9001 certification to the laboratory.
|4||In order to improve quality of administrative work and make it compatible with NAAC guidelines it was decided to change the filing and documentation system of IIEM. All the files would be given unique numbers and the list of all the files will be kept with Administration representative Mr. Ashwdeep Ganvir. Files would be categorised into – academic courses, research projects, university, accounts and purchase related activities. A separate purchase register would be maintained and a monthly budget statement of R & D funds would be prepared.
Mr. Anantraman Mahadevan emphazised on the measures to be taken for management of quality parameters.
|5||Dr. Devayani Savant proposed organization of various events as a part of IQAC activities. These would include Faculty Development Programmes on Research methodology, computer applications and Publication and research ethics.
Faculty will be encouraged to participate in Conferences, training programs and workshops.
Dr. Ketna Matkar suggested organization of training programs on soft skills and personality development for students.
Dr. Savant informed that a special issue of IIEM Newsletter would be published on "Publication and research ethics” in this year.
Dr. Ketna Matkar suggested creating a students’ blog on IIEM website to improve writing skills of the students. She also suggested encouraging students to contribute articles for the Newsletter.
Dr. Seema Mishra told that she was thinking of publishing a special issue of the Newsletter based on articles written by students and alumni.
Dr. Ketna Matkar suggested to put Institute logo on Institute’s LinkedIn page to catch attention of the alumni/members.
|6||Dr. Seema Mishra informed that a new ERP based interactive website of IIEM was under construction. The new website would be updated from time to time and would help in increasing visibility of the institute.|
|7||Ms. Neha Patange appreciated the quality of the academic activities and events organized by the institute. She was happy to be a part of the committee and would like to contribute in whatever way she could.
Prof. K. Venkatramani appreciated the comments and suggestions made by the members.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of SIES Indian Institute of Environment Management, Nerul organized an online faculty development program on "Research and Publication Ethics” during April 19-26, 2021.
The programmes consisted various modules to sensitize researchers and faculty across disciplines to enhance their skills in planning, writing, and communicating publications and proposals in peer reviewed, reputed academic journals and to various funding agencies, respectively. The focus of the programme was to guide participants on the ethics of research and publication especially plagiarism. The programme was designed to enlighten participants about research and publication quality as per the national and international standards.
The programme was designed as per UGC guidelines to provide 2 credits and certificate to the participants, especially Ph. D. students.
More than 100 registrations were received for the programme out of which 42 participants were confirmed. The participants represented more than 10 states including J & K, Goa, UP, across the country. Many others belonged to various colleges in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and represented institutions like VJTI and IIT.
The programme included lectures on Ethics in research, Publication Ethics, How to write a good research paper and how to write a good project proposal, Citation and Indexing databases, Copyright and IPR, Open Access Publishing, Indexing and Citation databases, Plagiarism. Eminent persons from research and academics – Prof. Prashant Bhave, VJTI, Prof. A. P. Jayaraman, Ex- BARC, Prof. Sudhakar Agarkar, HBCSE, Prof. M. L. Khan, HSG University, M. P., Prof. Ashwani Kumar, HSG University, M. P., Mr. V. Subramaniam, IPR Consultant, Mumbai, Prof. Yogesh Patil, Symbiosis International University, Pune, Prof. B. B. Sharma, Principal Vaze College, Mulund delivered lectures on these topics. Ms. Swati Meherishi, SpringerNature, Delhi, enlightened the audience on Publisher’s perspectives and Mr. Prakash Sarda from eGalactic, Pune gave demonstration of Plagiarism software, Urkund.
Participants were assessed on the basis of short answer questions and MCQs based on these lectures. Two group discussions were organized as a part of external assessment. GD on "Conflict of Interest” was conducted and evaluated by Prof. B. B. Sharma and GD on "Complaints and Appeals in Research Publications” was conducted and evaluated by Dr. Seema Mishra, Director, SIES IIEM. At the end of the program, the participants were given the task of writing a research article on selected topics.
All the registered participants who had more than 50% attendance were given certificates of participation. Additionally, Ph. D. students were given marksheets of the Ph. D. Coursework..
The participants have given a positive and encouraging feedback of the program. According to them, the content of the program was a judicious mix of Concepts, Principles and Practices; the content was relevant to the theme of the program. They have rated all the speakers as "excellent”. The program was highly interactive and useful- as it involved active learning techniques and was well managed. Participants have suggested organizing more of such programs in future especially one on "Research methodology”.
Dr. Uma Shankar, Principal SIES College, Sion delivered the valedictory address. She motivated the participants to get actively engaged in research. Dr. Devayani Savant, Coordinator, IQAC convened the program and proposed the vote of thanks.
